If you’re diabetic, or care for someone who is, then you know the obstacles that this chronic illness can mount against the need and desire to get a good night’s sleep.
Recently, DivaTalkRadio host and show creator Max “Mr. Divabetic” Szadek contacted SHC to join in a discussion in March about diabetes that included a short chat about obstructive sleep apnea and using CPAP.
The show aired live yesterday, but if you missed it, you can listen to it again here at the BlogTalkRadio web channel or via a download through iTunes (see the website).
The top of the show led with Max’s interview with SHC curator Tamara Sellman. If you listen all the way to the end, you’ll hear Tamara participate in a sleep-health trivia quiz in which she answers all her questions correctly!
From the show notes:
We’re talking about nighttime diabetes management with musical inspiration from Gladys Knight & The Pips courtesy of SONY Music.
Gladys Knight doesn’t have diabetes, but the disease is as close to her heart as the memories of her mother, Elizabeth Knight, who died of complications from the disease in 1997.
A five-time Grammy award winner, Knight is as busy as ever gracing the entertainment world with her exceptional voice.
Yet she never misses an opportunity to voice the message of early detection and treatment of diabetes.
Gladys shares her final words of wisdom: ” Do something about diabetes … Know more, do more!” Knight feels nearly as passionate about spreading that message as she does about the incredible singing career her mom helped her launch some 54 years ago.
Guests include Stacey Harris aka ‘The Diabetic Pastry Chef’, Mary Ann Hodorowicz, RD, LDN, MBA, CDE, CEC, the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach, SleepyHead Central founder Tamara Sellman RPSGT, CCSH, Poet Lorraine Brooks and Mama Rose Marie.

Many thanks to Max for the invitation to speak about sleep and diabetes! It was a fun experience and I hope to return to talk more about sleep health!
DivaTalkRadio is a service of Divabetic, a national health and wellness nonprofit forum for education, empowerment and encouragement for those living with, at risk of and affected by diabetes. The channel is also on a mission to glamorize good health.
The organization was inspired by the late music legend, Luther Vandross, with whom Szadek worked for 14 years as the singer’s professional assistant. Szadek watched as diabetes led to the decline in the health of his boss, mentor, and friend, and this is surely the key inspiration behind Szadek’s efforts to create DivaTalkRadio, which has been going strong since 2005.
